System Restore is a tool created by Microsoft that helps protect and repair Windows. It works by creating Restore Points (snapshots) of system files and Windows registry data. These Restore Points can be used later if Windows becomes unstable. The repair does not affect personal data.
Some Restore Points are created automatically when performing certain actions, such as, installing software and updating drivers. Manual Restore Points can be created at any time using the steps below.
Create a system restore point
- In the search box on the taskbar, type Create a restore point, and select it from the list of results.
- On the System Protection tab in System Properties, select Create.
- Type a description for the restore point, and then select Create > OK.
